Kindergeld is a state benefit that is available to all parents in Germany regardless of their income.
How much?
The amount of Kindergeld depends on the number of children in your household:
How long?
Kindergeld is paid monthly from the date of birth of the child until they turn 18 years old. In some cases, Kindergeld can be paid up until the child is 25 years old.
Who is eligible?
Biological parents (in some cases also grand-parents, step-parents and / foster parents) are eligible for Kindergeld. However only one person receives Kindergeld per child so that the parents have to decide between themselves who is going to be receiving the money.
E.g.: one child in family Smith, the parents decide that the mum is going to be the recipient for the 204€.
Conditions?
In most cases, parents are eligible if they:
Yes, you are eligible even if:
How and when to apply:
Although Kindergeld is available to most families, you need to apply for it at the local Familienkasse. Kindergeld can be paid 6 months retroactively from the date of application. However, you have to apply within 4 years of the child being born or entering the country. After that your eligibility ends forever.
For parents who want a stress-free approach to paperwork and who want to make sure to get the application right the first time round
What you get:
My ultimate goal is to offer expat families a unique experience that will allow them to:
- ensure they are maximizing their benefit
- follow their long-term goals
- have peace of mind knowing everything has been taken care of
I have worked with over 300 families helping them with their paperwork. I have seen complex cases ranging from the baby being born abroad, families relocating to Germany, families claiming similar benefits abroad and topping up their claim with the German Kindergeld.
I care about your application as if it was my own.
